Serbian consortium to take part in Port of Bar tender
28 January 2010
Serbian Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic has confirmed that Serbia formed a consortium of companies which will take part in the tender for the Port of Bar, in Montenegro, reports radio B92.
The consortium will, together with the Serbian government, take part in the tender for the purchase of the Montenegrin Adriatic Sea port. Mrkonjic told Podgorica daily Vijesti that all documentation was gathered and that the consortium will be headed by the company owned by Serbian businessman Miodrag Kostic, adding that Sartid from Smederevo and Victoria Group will also participate.
Mrkonjic announced that companies which will take part in the privatization of the Port of Bar will receive some incentives in Serbia, however he did not specify which, pointing out that it will certainly not be the money from the state budget.
He stressed that Serbia’s interest is to have exit to the Adriatic Sea, while the political interest of Serbia and Montenegro is to act together. Mrkonjic underscored that around one million tonnes of goods are being transported to Bar by rail and that this amount can be increased to 2,5 million tonnes without any additional investments. He said he believes that about 300 million euros should be invested in the Port of Bar and in the railroad.
