Barrot: Visa-free travel key for Balkans
29.09.2009
A senior European Commission official says an EU delegation will check next month whether Balkan countries have fulfilled conditions for visa-free travel.
Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Jacques Barrot says abolishment of visas is a key step on the region's road to EU membership.
Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia are expected to be granted visa-free travel to EU countries in January. Barrot was in Montenegro on Tuesday, where he arrived from Serbia.
He says that visa-free travel will help Montenegrin citizens feel like "members of the European family."
