Decline in construction industry output

Montenegro’s construction industry recorded a 28.4 per cent decline of its production in the second quarter of 2009. This is 9.2 per cent more than in the previous quarter. The value of construction work carried out in Montenegro in the second quarter totalled EUR 57.3 million (at current prices), according to figures released by statistics office Monstat.

The number of construction workers active in the sector fell by 17.8 per cent (to 3,56) against a year-on-year decline of 4.7 per cent in the first quarter. Between April and June, productivity fell by 13 per cent on the year, after the 4.7 per cent decline in the first quarter.

Since the start of 2009, the total value of hours worked in construction reached EUR 100.4 million, a 21.3 per cent drop on the year. The number of construction workers declined by 11.6 per cent in that period, with 14.3 per cent fewer hours worked during the year.
