New law on employing foreigners in Montenegro

Even though the Parliament adopted a new law on employing foreigners, it will come into force on January 1, 2009. With the application of the new law, the Government’s provision on hiring foreigners, reached in 2003 after the initiative of employers, will stop being valid. The employers then demanded to be able to legally employ foreigners because of the need for workforce.
According to the old law, the employers hired foreigners according to a special contract that did not establish an employment, but the employers only paid administrative taxes of EUR 2.5 per day, while the new law predicts full employment of foreigners.
