Government to discuss Property Act amendment
08.02.2008
Despite the controversies on the amendment to the Property Act which would enable foreign citizens to register real estate in Montenegro, it is certain that this amendment will be a part of the agenda of the 11th session of the Government.
The message of the vice-president of the Government for European Integrations Gordana Djurovic that the disputable property law should be rejected due to an article which allows foreigners to trade with real-estate, caused a series of commentaries, and mixed feelings about the law.
The Union of Employers of Montenegro believes that to ban foreigners from selling property would discourage serious investors, although there is a possibility to solve this problem by cooperating with domestic entrepreneurs or forming new in Montenegro. At the end of 2007 foreign citizens owned only 1.3% of property in Montenegro.
